Equipment

  • BBQ Grill

Ingredients

  • 1 or 1.5 lbs fresh shrimp large or medium; peeled and deveined (tails optional)
  • 1/4 onion finely minced
  • 1 clove garlic finely minced
  • 2 Tbsp melted butter
  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce preferred flavor
  • 1 Tbsp honey
  • 1 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Combine your minced onion, garlic, honey, cayenne pepper, and BBQ sauce in a bowl. You may add salt and pepper to taste to this mixture, but make sure you don’t add too much salt in a later step for this recipe. Mix well before tossing in the shrimp until well-coated.
  • Preheat your grill to about a medium-high heat. Place your shrimp on grilling skewers, about 5 shrimp to each skewer, until all the shrimp are in place.
  • Use a basting brush to baste shrimp with melted butter and, if desired, add salt and pepper to taste. Make sure to coat both sides.
  • Grill your shrimp 2 minutes on the first side. Flip your shrimp and brush them with another layer of BBQ sauce, then grill for 2 minutes. Repeat basting and flipping maneuver until the shrimp are done; this will not take long, so make sure not to overcook them or they will be tough. When done, the outside of the shrimp should turn a nice pink color when it is cooked while the meat inside should be white and opaque.
  • Remove cooked shrimp from the heat. Drizzle with lemon juice before serving and if you like, use any leftover BBQ sauce as a dip.
